Similar to manufacturing facilities, warehouses, garages and maintenance shops are often poorly insulated with high ceilings and tall doors often left open for long periods of time. Susceptible to continual heat loss, they are difficult and expensive to heat.
These problems are solved efficiently and effectively with electric radiant heat, leading to warmth and comfort for occupants and energy savings for building owners.
Take a look at the our successful projects across the US and Canada:
Garage/Maintenance Shops – North America wide, various sizes
Challenges: Each location and building is different so the design parameters are different and require a customized solution. Then depending on the owner’s requirements or the building type, the best product for that application is used.
Product: Depending on the building structure, there are three radiant products that are chosen.
- Earth Storage Electric Radiant Heating
- Radiant Ceiling Electric Radiant Heating
- Architectural Series Electric Radiant Heating
Result: Repeat business is the best indicator that the systems are working. In a 60 x 120 steel framed building, a typical Under Slab heating system (ETS) was $15,942 or $2.21 per sq.ft.
60,000 Square Foot Tire Facility – Minneapolis, MN
Challenges: The shop doors are opening and closing all the time. Can a heating system be efficient and provide continuous comfort at the same time. A standard HVAC system wastes heat as once a garage door is open, the hot air escapes rapidly and then the area must be re-heated all over again. The result is high operating costs and the work areas fluctuate between warm and cold.
Product – Earth Storage Electric Radiant Heating
Results: The goal was achieved by using Therma-Ray’s Under Slab Radiant heating panels (ETS type).
25,000 Square Foot Trucking Facility – Fargo, ND
Challenges: The walls are 24 feet high. The shop doors are opening and closing all the time. Can a heating system be efficient and provide continuous comfort at the same time. A standard HVAC system wastes heat as once a garage door is open, the hot air escapes rapidly and then the area must be re-heated all over again. The result is high operating costs and the work areas fluctuate between warm and cold.
Product: Earth Storage Electric Radiant Heating
Results: The goal was achieved by using Therma-Ray’s Under Slab Radiant heating panels (ETS type). The owner states: “The shop area recovers quickly after the doors have been opened and the guys are happy working in a warm and comfortable environment. Installation was easy and a fraction of the cost of everything else we considered. We are very happy with not only the comfort, but more importantly, the low operating costs.” Actual recorded Kwh used for one year: 117,931.
7,600 Square Foot Warehouse – Elk River, MN
Challenges: This is both a warehouse and retail store requiring different levels of heat. Zoning was an important consideration as was operating costs.
Product: Earth Storage Electric Radiant Heating
Results: The goal was achieved by using Therma-Ray’s Under Slab Radiant heating panels (ETS type). The retail section was kept at a normal 70F state, while the warehouse was kept cooler. Walk in traffic and shop doors opening and closing did not affect comfort levels.
The owner has compared his operating costs to others in the area and states:
“I am paying 1/3 to ½ the operating costs of what they are paying and there’s no maintenance either.
For two recorded years, kilowatt usage was 41,653 and 36,480.”
Warehouse Vaudreuil, Quebec Canada
Challenges: The owner was expanding his facility by almost double in size. The goal was to limit the peak demand for electricity.
Product: Earth Storage Electric Radiant Heating
Results: The goal was achieved by using Therma-Ray’s Under Slab Radiant heating panels (ETS type) in conjunction with the SmartRooms control system. The radiant heating system was charged at night and on the weekends. By shifting the power demand from the busy daytime schedule to the lower off-hours demand time meant the owner could avoid paying the extra demand charges had he used another heating system. Quebec does not offer off-peak electrical rates yet savings was still possible by shifting the heating demand to lower use periods.
