Congratulations on your SmartRooms Floor Warming purchase!
Since Owners Manuals can be lengthy and sometimes unclear, I have come up with a few simple steps to help you in setting up your SmartRooms Control for Floor Warming.
SmartRooms Floor Warming Control
I usually explain to people that our menu setup is much like Windows Explorer.
To get where you want to go, you sometimes have to drill down into sub folders. If you take a look at our menu flow chart at the back of the manual you will get a better picture of what I mean.
To do this, think of your Enter/Menu button at the bottom left of the controller as clicking your mouse.
Every time you make a change you want to register, or you are opening subfolders, you must press Enter/Menu.
What time is it?
The first thing you want to do is to set your date and time. If you press your Enter/Menu button the first thing you will see on your display is Menu Date. Press the Enter/Menu again and you will see the date in month/day/year with the cursor under the two-digit month number. Simply use your Up or Down arrows on the right of the screen to change the month to the correct month.
When you have done this, press the Right Arrow that points to go to the day. Use the Up or Down Arrow to change the day and then repeat this process to change the year. Once completed, press Enter/Menu and you will be back to Menu Date. Press your down arrow once to get to Menu Time and then press Enter/Menu. The time is represented in a two-digit hour and then minutes followed by AM or PM.
The AM/PM cannot be changed using the Up or Down Arrows. You must scroll around the clock when you are editing the hour field. For instance, your control initially says 05:25 AM, and the correct time is 06:30 PM. When you go in to Menu Time, the cursor is under the 05. You cannot simply press the Up Arrow once and move on to minutes. Press the Up Arrow until it goes from 5 to 6 to 7 etc. all the way until it says 6 again. (Note, the AM has now switched to PM).
The time now shows 06:25 PM. Press the Right Arrow once to get the cursor under the minutes and then use your Up Arrow to change the 25 to 30. Now press Enter/Menu. You will be back out to Menu Time. If you press the Cancel/OCC button once, you will be back out of the menu and in Run Mode. Watch as the display changes and shows the correct date and time.
How do you determine what your set point should be?
You are now ready to set your operating temperature.
The simplest way to set your temperature is to use the manual/occupied settings. Simply press the Cancel/OCC button or either your Up or Down Arrow. Choose the setting you want and then make sure to press the Enter/Menu button again. Your display will now show the setpoint as this new setting and the little green light on the Cancel/OCC button will be on.
As comfort is really very personal and determined by many variables, I recommend that you turn the heat on, to a number higher than you think you’ll want and let the floor warm up. (You will see a down pointing arrow next to the floor temperature on the rotating display to tell you that the floor heat is on. You may even hear a click coming from the relay behind the control in the wall).
Periodically go in to the room and when the floor/room feels comfortable to you, look at the control and see what it is reporting the floor temperature to be and viola! you have your new setpoint. Adjust your Occupied Temperature down to this new number by pressing the Down Arrow and then Enter/Menu. The little down arrow should disappear on the display next to the floor temperature since your floor is already at the temperature you want. (It’s no longer calling for heat.)
Get ready to enjoy your radiant floor heat! Say no more to cold tiles jolting you awake on late night trips to the bathroom. I recommend that now that you have set it, now forget it – you don’t need to be fussing with it all the time – that’s what programmable controls are for.
